In 2020–2022, used EV prices spiked due to supply shortages. By 2024–2026, the used EV market normalized. Some models now depreciate faster than comparable gas cars; others hold value well. Knowing which is which matters if you plan to sell within 5 years.

Models that depreciate faster

Nissan Leaf depreciates fast because of older battery chemistry and no active thermal management. Some Chevy Bolts and Volkswagen ID.4 base trims have also seen aggressive depreciation when EV prices were cut. High-MSRP luxury EVs from Audi, Mercedes, and BMW can lose 40–50% in 3 years.
